Tune in on September 7th at 7:30pm EST to hear from 4 experts in the field of dental entrepreneurship - Drs. Allmand, Austin, Dorfman, and Stuchlick! This will be the first of a two-part seminar, focusing on practice ownership and management in dentistry!
Leading the Right Way at the Right Time
In this interactive session on Thursday, August 26 at 7 pm CDT, ASDA alum Dr. Andy Larkin will share insights from his leadership experiences and tips for effective leadership. He will walk through the various leadership styles, discuss their unique benefits and challenges and share how you can use them to manage different situations and audiences. Attendees will have an opportunity to discuss leadership scenarios in breakout groups. Registration opens August 2.
Chapter Leader Roundtable: Diversity, Equity & Inclusion
During this session on Thursday, August 19 at 7 pm CDT, Mariama Boney, ASDA’s D&I Consultant, and Alia Osseiran, D&I Task Force Member, will share key insights from the 2020 DEI member survey and listening sessions, and offer tips for how ASDA leaders can utilize that information to support their members. They’ll also share best practices for having crucial conversations about DEI topics before participants are given an opportunity to apply the tips in breakout group discussions. This session is intended for ASDA chapter leaders, but all members are welcome. Registration opens August 2.
ASDA will host a guided mediation sponsored by ADA Members Insurance Plans on August 18 from 7:30 – 8 pm CDT to highlight emotional wellness. The mediation will be facilitated by ASDA member Amanda Segel, Columbia ’23. The event is free for members to attend, but they must pre-register. Registration opens August 6.

Even worse, these external forces can lead us to make poor decisions which can impact our career long term. In my 11 years practicing, I've made more of these decisions than most, and although my story is one of many successes, I would like to share my experiences in the hope that others can avoid some of the failures I've endured. Choosing to get into this profession presents a tremendous opportunity for financial, personal, and professional success, but all of that can only come with great focus and a tremendous amount of hard work. I am excited to share my experiences in a light hearted but serious discussion with the soon to be graduated students."
NYSDA New Dentist Survival Guide Series
The NYSDA New Dentist Committee developed four new, never before produced webinars entitled “Survival Guide Series: Setting Yourself Up for Success.” The webinars will engage both members and nonmembers. They begin in February, with the final presentation in the series in May/June. Topics include wellness and mental health, financial planning, starting a practice, and marketing your practice and self. After each webinar, registrants will receive a tip sheet to add to their Survival Guide folder. Attendees should register for all four webinars to complete their survival guide. The first of these webinars will take place THIS WEDNESDAY, 3/24 at 7pm and is FREE to ASDA members to attend!
Vaccine Administration, Medical Marijuana & Other Hot Topics at Annual Session

As advocates for the wellbeing of dental students, patients and our profession, ASDA will address a wide range of issues at our upcoming Annual Session. Student leaders will discuss hot topics in dentistry, including dentists’ roles in administering vaccines and prescribing marijuana. Tune into this session to learn more about these subjects as well as policy resolutions passed during Annual Session. We’ll also review how you can create change by submitting your own resolutions at next year’s Annual Session.

ASDA’s advocacy efforts have influenced licensure reform in numerous states. It is important for ASDA members to understand ASDA’s recent efforts and how to take grassroots action to advocate for permanent licensure reform. This webinar will provide ASDA members with updates on dental licensure, share information about the licensure task force and provide resources to assist members in grassroots advocacy efforts.
District 2 Meeting
The 2020-2021 ASDA District 2 Meeting will be held VIRTUALLY on January 9th & 10th.
Within the American Student Dental Association, District 2 is the largest district, representing dental students from Buffalo, Columbia, NYU, Rutgers, Stony Brook, and Touro. The District 2 Meeting is the single largest event every year that brings together students from every school in NY and NJ.
